Have you ever thought why men think women are complicated and why women think men are a**holes and stupid? Have you ever wondered how our species survived the test of time even though men and women have been at each others throats? Did it occur to you that maybe men or women will be better off without the other?
Defending the Caveman, Broadway’s smash hit comedy about the sexes, gives a hilarious insight on the differences between both sexes. Written by Rob Becker, an American actor and comedian, it premiered in 1991, and now, with a little revision to accommodate the developments of our current era the monologue will be delivered and performed by Joel Trinidad. Joel is an actor and writer who was also seen in shows like “Avenue Q” and “Xanadu”, he can also be seen in “Kaos” which is still showing at Resorts World, Philippines.

Though the title may infer that the topic is about cavemen, it is in fact a balanced view between the sexes. It gives the men’s point of view as well as the women’s point of view. It can also be an entertaining approach to marriage counseling. It gives a variety of examples to help us see how each gender reacts in certain situations. Bottom line is, Defending a Caveman encourages understanding between men and women. The show has already sold more than 8 million tickets worldwide in 16 different languages.
I give two thumbs up to the performance of Joel Trinidad, even though it was a one-man-show he was able to hold everyone’s attention during an hour-long show and engage the audience as well. He made it look like he was actually the one who had these dilemas, and was merely sharing his experiences. Having two directors, namely Michael Williams and Cathy Azanza-Dy, directing one man they were still able to maintain a balance between the male and female parts portrayed by Joel. This is surely something you wouldn’t normally see in a theater production. The Flinstone’s type props were simple but fun to watch especially with Joel going around and using them. The entire crew really emphasized on the details and though the preview was shown in a dance studio, it was still appealing. Defending a Caveman is very entertaining and I would recommend it to everyone having relationship problems, soon to be in a relationship, or previously in a relationship, or just about anyone who would want to have a good laugh.

Defending the Caveman will be showing at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, 4th floor, RCBC Plaza Ayala Ave. cor. Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City on 2011 May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21 at 8pm. For more inquiries and for ticket purchases visit Ticket World.
